Demetris is a dual-qualified lawyer in the UK (Solicitor) and Cyprus (Advocate) with over 13 years of experience in UK immigration law. He completed his legal studies at University College London and City University London.

Demetris is trusted by both corporate and private clients to provide clear, strategic, and practical immigration advice and has personally represented over 1,500 clients across more than 30 visa routes. He has held senior roles as Head of Immigration at Legal 500 firms and within the Big Four, gaining valuable insight into the operations of global organisations and their immigration challenges. Throughout his career, he has delivered innovative and sustainable immigration solutions to multinationals, SMEs, high-net-worth individuals, entrepreneurs and private clients.

Demetris went on to establish Distinct Law, a modern and client-focused immigration practice based in London, through which he advises on all aspects of business immigration, including Sponsor Licence applications, compliance, enforcement actions, Skilled Worker and Global Business Mobility visas, as well as Innovator Founder, Global Talent, and High Potential Individual visas. He continues to support applications under legacy immigration routes such as the Sole Representative, Tier 1 Entrepreneur and Investor categories, working with a portfolio of long-standing clients whom he has advised from their initial leave through to their extension and ILR applications.

Demetris also delivers training on immigration law and advises corporate clients on immigration policy development, implementation, and preparation for Home Office audits. His approach is proactive and comprehensive, focusing on compliance not only at the application stage but throughout the full lifecycle of the sponsorship process.

In addition to his corporate practice, Demetris has extensive experience in personal and family-based immigration, including applications under Appendix FM for spouses, fiancé(e)s, children, and parents of British or settled children. He regularly advises on cases involving complex financial circumstances, previous refusals, adverse immigration history and criminal convictions.

He also assists with UK Ancestry visas, Indefinite Leave to Remain, long residence applications, nationality and citizenship, as well as applications for PBS dependants and visitors. Where necessary, he supports clients through administrative reviews and appeals.

As a recognised expert in his sector, Demetris has been invited to speak at national and international events, including the Cambridge Network, Westminster Policy Forum, the UK Department for Business and Trade, and more recently at DGEMS, a global mobility summit hosted by Forbes India.

As Managing Director of Distinct Law, Demetris brings not only legal expertise but also a personal connection to immigration, having relocated to several countries for work and study. Combined with his professional insight, this enables him to deliver an unparalleled client-focused service to both businesses and individuals navigating the UK immigration system.

Notable Work
  • Assisted a client in securing a Sponsor Licence and a Skilled Worker visa through self-sponsorship, successfully managing a pre-licence audit and multiple enquiries at the Defined CoS and visa application stage.
  • Secured British citizenship registration for children born overseas to British citizens by descent, overcoming historical legislative unfairness that had previously prevented the mother from passing on citizenship.
  • Advised clients under the Global Talent route across the Technology, Engineering, and Arts categories, including support in achieving accelerated settlement by combining leave held under multiple qualifying immigration routes.
  • Successfully obtained a Spouse visa for a client relying on a stocks and shares account without having to liquidate the funds.
  • Enabled entrepreneurs, founders, and their dependants to obtain Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) despite exceeding the permitted absences threshold, by successfully presenting compelling and compassionate circumstances.
  • Secured a Spouse visa for same-sex unmarried partners, relying on multiple sources of income and investment accounts in both the UK and overseas.
  • Assisted clients in regularising their immigration status following periods of overstaying, with strong supporting evidence and legal representations invoking exception provisions in the Immigration Rules.
  • Advised on complex family applications involving a returning sponsor with EU settled status, overseas self-employment income, and a spouse with adverse immigration history. Combined EU Settlement Scheme applications for the children with an Appendix FM application for the spouse, resulting in a successful outcome and significant cost savings.
  • Advised a Sole Representative of an overseas financial services company on extension and ILR applications, involving a complex corporate structure with affiliated entities across four jurisdictions.
  • Represented clients applying for ILR under the 10-year long residence route, overcoming issues with continuous residence, previous visa refusals and periods of leave granted following applications submitted from overseas.
  • Reinstated the Sponsor Licence of a care provider with multiple branches and over 200 employees following a Home Office compliance visit and licence suspension.
  • Led a team of immigration professionals managing approximately 2,500 UK inbound immigration applications annually across work, family, and dependant routes for a Big Four organisation.
  • Reinstated a Skilled Worker, Student, and Temporary Worker Sponsor Licence for an international school following a Home Office audit and licence suspension.
  • Successfully appealed the refusal of a child’s application to join a parent who had been granted limited leave to remain in the UK with a view to settlement, overturning two previous refusals.
International Experience

Prior to being admitted as a solicitor in the UK and establishing his own legal practice, Demetris worked as a Legal Advisor at the Cyprus Refugee Council, the implementing partner of UNHCR Cyprus, where he supported refugees and asylum seekers, including victims of torture, throughout all stages of the asylum procedure.

He also gained experience as a Legal Assistant at the European Commission in Brussels, where he worked on infringement proceedings against EU member states in the areas of public health and consumer protection.
